RALLIES
We organise a series of Summer Rallies to various ports and anchorages on the East Coast and Thames Estuary and near Continent. Yachts attending rallies are awarded points according to scale of difficulty devised by the Sailing Secretary and the yacht with the highest score is awarded the Rally Cup. Other trophies include the Hetherington Cup for best cruising log, the Bill Cole Bollard for the Brightlingsea Timed Rally with special awards like the Hippopotamus Trophy for running aground in a stylish or spectacular manner
During the Winter, the Sailing Secretary drafts a suggested Rally programme for the coming season and this is discussed and agreed by Members. Generally, we go ashore for a meal at a Club or pub but on some, especially on raft-up rallies, we tuck in to a meal prepared aboard. Informality is the order of the day.
Our Spring Rally to Calais takes place on the weekend of the Spring Bank Holiday and has the added attraction of meeting with other East Coast Clubs who are invited to compete for the Narrow Seas Club Pennant, a trophy for the Club with the greatest number of attending yachts.
During the Summer, usually June/July, a Cruise in Company to Holland sometimes takes place. The knowledge that other Club yachts are in the vicinity can be a comfort for those making the North Sea passage for the first time. In Dutch waters, members are free to go their separate ways or cruise in company, meeting as and when they will.
